As one of five schools nominated to take part in the Shop for Schools initiative, Puss Bank was voted the winning school by Grosvenor Centre shoppers. Customers who spent £10 or more in participating stores in the mall were given a voucher which allowed them to vote for the school of their choice.
The £1,000 winnings could be spent on anything for the school, from gym equipment and computers to training courses, with Puss Bank choosing to spend the full amount on new books for their school library and - purchasing more than 70 titles ranging from fact to fiction and everything in between.
“We are delighted that Puss Bank School put the winnings to such good use. Children love books and this investment will only help to encourage even more children to read and enjoy the excellent selection now on offer at the Puss Bank School library,” said Ed Kennedy, Grosvenor Centre Manager.
Kathy Nichol, head teacher at Puss Bank, added. “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Grosvenor Centre and all its customers who voted for us. We were thrilled to be the lucky winners of the £1000.
“As our pupils are passionate about reading, it seemed the obvious choice to spend the money on new books for the school. Since they arrived, the children have been very excited about being able to borrow the books which they helped choose for the library and can’t wait to share them with friends.”
